EERA Workshop on Photovoltaics & Digitalisation 2026: Advancing the Future of PV Through Collaboration

The EERA Workshop on Photovoltaics & Digitalisation 2026 brought together a vibrant community of experts at the intersection of solar energy and digital transformation. Co-organized by the joint programmes EERA JP PV and EERA JP DfE, the event took place in Vienna and online, offering two intensive days of knowledge exchange, cross-disciplinary dialogue, and collaboration.

With participants from research, industry, data science, meteorology, and system operations, the workshop created a uniquely interdisciplinary environment. Discussions revolved around bridging the gap between digitalisation and real-world PV applications, improving measurement precision and data quality, and exploring the opportunities offered by AI, modelling, and high-performance computing in modern PV systems.

A highlight of the workshop was the strong engagement of the community. Speakers from leading institutions, including experts in PV plant operation, satellite-based modelling, energy data infrastructures, and next-generation predictive tools, shared state-of-the-art developments and tangible challenges. Their contributions fueled open, forward-looking discussions on what the sector needs to accelerate the digital transformation of photovoltaics.

Interactive elements, such as panel discussions, Q&A sessions, and topic-focused round tables, encouraged participants to actively shape the conversation. The poster session further enriched the exchange, providing space for detailed technical dialogue and emerging research insights.

Beyond the formal programme, informal moments—coffee breaks, the networking dinner, and on-site conversations—allowed attendees to strengthen connections, share experiences, and build new collaborations across disciplines.

The success of this workshop demonstrates the growing importance of digitalisation across the full PV value chain. By integrating expertise from measurement to modelling, from plant operations to data infrastructures, the event helped chart a clearer path toward more efficient, intelligent, and interconnected PV systems in Europe.

We warmly thank all speakers and participants for their contributions, energy, and openness to collaboration. The insights generated during these two days will continue to guide the community’s work, and we look forward to building on this momentum in future activities and joint initiatives.

This workshop reflects the core mission of EERA: fostering collaboration across Joint Programmes, and it is only the beginning—many more joint initiatives will follow, strengthening our shared capacity to exchange knowledge, expertise, and vision.
