Floating photovoltaics has attracted a lot of attention during the last years and can turn unused bodies of water into power generators with additional benefits such as extra natural cooling effects from the water, reduced shading and a significant reduction in water evaporation. Nevertheless,  floating photovoltaics still represent less than 0.5% of the total solar photovoltaic installations globally. Therefore more research and development is needed to solve several still existing issues related to anchoring and mooring, safety, degradation and corrosion, etc..
